Lesotho is the rare country you enter almost entirely by road from another one: it is surrounded on every side by South Africa, and most visitors drive in over a border post from Bloemfontein or Durban, or up the Sani Pass in a 4x4. The draw is the Maloti mountains – pony trekking, Katse Dam, the Afriski slopes in winter and the highest terrain in southern Africa.
